FairShare started the way most expense apps do: with a trip, a group chat, and three currencies floating around one shared bill. Somebody paid the flights in one currency, somebody else covered meals in another, and nobody could agree on the exchange rate.
So instead of forcing everything into one base currency, we built balances that stay in the currency they were spent in. It turned out that was exactly what everyone wanted.
Today FairShare powers groups of roommates, families, travellers and teams, with the same principles from day one:
- Balances are always per currency — never converted, never mixed.
- Equal splits recompute when someone new joins — everyone is treated fairly.
- Invitations must be accepted — nobody joins a group by surprise.
- Every feature works on a phone.
